Kenya’s first female Major General Fatumah Ahmed (Photos)

Fatumah Ahmed has been appointed as Major General, making her the first Kenyan woman soldier to attain the position.

President Uhuru Kenyatta announced she will be the new Assistant Chief of the Defense Forces in charge of Personnel and Logistics.



She was recognised during a ceremony at State House and said her appointment was an honour for the country.

Our President told her: ” I am counting on you to be a positive role model to women across the country.”

He then added:

“Let other women see that there are no limits. May you be a great inspiration and guide of console everywhere”.


Major General Fatumah Ahmed responded:

‘“I am very happy with this new appointment because it shows that the President values the contribution of women to the development of our great nation,”.

‘Major General’ rank is the third highest after General and Lieutenant General.
