Kenyan Wawira Njiru awarded 2018 Global Citizen award

Wawira Niru, founder and executive director of food for education has been awarded the 2018 Global Citizen award for youth leadership in South Africa.

US singer Usher and CISCO CEO Chuck Robbins presented the award to her.

The festival took place over the weekend in South Africa, where Beyonce, Ed Sheeran among others performed for fans.

The 27-year-old has been named as the top 40 under 40 Kenyan women to watch out for by the Business Daily.

She wrote:

Thankful to be named one of #Top40under40KE women in Kenya.
We haven’t even scratched the surface of what we want to accomplish at @Food4Education so this is just the beginning but I’m thankful as always, to be here doing work that I deeply love and believe in. #feedingthefuture

The Global Citizen Festival is a concert that brings together musicians, world leaders, and global citizens in an effort to influence positive change on a global scale.

On 2December, 2018, Global Citizen brought together its largest contingency of heads of state, dignitaries, a group of the world’s most talented artists and influencers, and thousands of global citizens to celebrate the centenary of Nelson Mandela.
