Kenya expected to win big at Chicago marathon

The 37th annual Chicago marathon will be held on Sunday and  Kenya’s Rita Jeptoo who is there to defend her 2013 championship.

She clocked a personal best of 2:19:57 last year and is a Boston Marathon champion this year.

Aslo on the lookout is Florence Kiplagat (2:19:44), Jemima Sumgong (2:20:48) and Ethiopia’s Birhane Dibaba (2:22:30

The men’s side will be represented by Eliud Kipchoge who has a personal best of 2:05:04 and he will be up against stiff competition from Kenenisa Bekele who has a personal best of 2:04:05.

Dennis Kimetto who is the record holder with a personal best time of 2:02:57 did not enter the race. Kenya’s Sammy Kitwara (2:05:16), Bernard Koech (2:04:53) and Dickson Chumba (2:05:42) are also in the race.

Speaking to AP news Jeptoo said “I’m here again to try my best and (run) my best time in Chicago. Everybody here, I think, is ready for a run on Sunday. Everybody is ready to run fast.”

The race will begin at  1:30 pm Kenyan time.
