Destiny’s Child was the pre-eminent girl group in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. The group was synonymous with hit singles that espoused girl power and became everlasting themes for women of that generation.
Although the group didn’t have an outward leader, most people could see that Beyonce was the dominant member of the threesome.
The other members of the group were Kelly Rowland (the prettiest member in my opinion) and Michelle Williams.
After the success, the group members all launched their own solo careers with Beyonce still gaining prominence among many fans. (Although her marriage to Jay Z didn’t hurt her reputation one bit!).
Kelly did her best and had her string of hits but when compared to Beyonce she looked like a fart in the wind. And Michelle, I won’t even speak about. The less said about her the better.
Kelly, 39, recently recalled her experience being overshadowed by Beyoncé during their heydays as group members of Destiny’s Child.
She was speaking after The Voice Australia contestant Chris Sebastian explained his fears about being overshadowed by his older brother, pop star Guy Sebastian.
“I know this feeling. Can you imagine what it’s like being in a group with Beyoncé? I would just torture myself in my head,” she said.
The coach of The Voice also recalled often telling herself that she could not wear certain dresses because “they were going to say it is like B.” “Or, ‘I cannot have a song like that because it sounds too much like B. They are gonna compare anyway,” she added.
She said that the comparison bothered her and that having a more famous band-mate was “the elephant in the room” for “a whole decade.”
