Francis Ole Kaparo is the new chairperson of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission.
The former Speaker of the national assembly takes over from Mzalendo Kibunjia whose term as chairman expired. Kaparo has also previously served as chairman of environmental watchdog NEMA.
The appointment was made on Thursday by President Uhuru Kenyatta who also appointed seven new commissioners to NCIC. They are Belinda Akoth Ochiel, Irene Njeri Wanyoike, Adan Abdi Mohammed, Roba Sharamo, Joseph Wamocha Nasongo, Morris Dzoro and Professor Gitile Naituli .
Chairpersons of the National Commission on Human Rights, the National Gender and Equality Commission and the Commission on Administrative Justice will also serve as NCIC commissioners.
