Gone too soon! University student hacked to death by her lover

A university student was on Saturday murdered by her boyfriend after love went sour in a guest house in Bondo town.

The third-year student at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology Valerie Apondi 23 met her untimely death at 5 am after a short spat with her lover.

Apondi, who was pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, was found dead in a pool of blood in the room they had booked.

The suspect Collins Oluoch Ogweno 25-year-old a nurse at Nightingale Hospital in Kisumu is said to have hacked the girlfriend with a panga to death.

Valerie ApondiIn what appeared as a well-orchestrated plot by the suspect, the deceased’s friend who spoke on condition of anonymity said Oluoch persuaded her to move out of the school.

“Apondi was not willing to go anywhere with Oluoch but after minutes of persuasion she gave in and the two left to Bondo town,” our source said.

According to the guest house caretaker Benson Onchiri, the two booked a room on Friday at around 8 pm.

Onchiri narrated that all was well in the facility until 5 am in the morning on Saturday that he heard a commotion from one of the rooms where a female occupant was screaming for help.

“I rushed to the room but it was locked from inside before I decided to alert the police who rushed to the scene and the suspect was arrested,” said Onchiri.

Confirming the incident, Deputy OCPD Bondo Robert Makau said they recovered a panga and a suspected poisonous liquid at the scene.

Makau said the preliminary information at the moment from a close friend of the two says the suspect accused the deceased of infidelity in their relationship.

The officer added that the two had a child together and they have been in constant conflict before the incident.

The body was removed to Bondo sub-county hospital mortuary as the suspect is being held by police for investigations.
