Residents of Baringo have been left in shock and disbelief after a 15-year old girl commits suicide leaving behind her four months baby at Moigutwo village in Baringo North Sub-county.
According to residents the deceased girl, Sylvia Jeruto who sat for her KCPE exam and scored 284 marks in 2016 but never managed to join form one, went missing from their home on Tuesday only for her lifeless body to be recovered in a nearby bush.
“After day long search her lifeless body was found in a nearby bush on Tuesday morning around 11am,” Kabosgei location Chief Jackson Cheruiyot said.
He said the body was taken by police to Baringo County hospital mortuary in Kabarnet, adding that motive of taking her own life is yet to be known.
Moigutwo primary school head teacher Michael Sotany said maybe deceased girl had her education cut shot due to pregnancy although sources also attribute it to alcoholic nature of her parents.
However, her father Rotich Toree overwhelmed with grieve could talk to the media. But the Uncle David Shikuku regretted the incident saying the family has been left with hard task of raise the kid, citing the state of poverty.
In the same sub-county Police are hunting for a 30-year old man who killed his 22-year old wife, mother of a-year old baby before running into hiding on Monday.
It is not ascertained the motive as to why the assailant Laban Kamuren descended to kill his wife of two children Judith Chesang in cold blood.
Nancy Chesang a sister to the deceased says
“We were four in the farm, two women and my sister, harvesting millet at the compound when my in-law appeared with a huge stick at around 10am then descended to beat up my sister.”
She said when other women ran away she screamed as she watched helplessly the assailant lashed hardly on her sister’s head before she collapsed and became unconscious.
“He ran immediately to the house and while I was trying to help lift up my sister he appeared with a sharp panga then I ran away and he hurriedly hacked her neck and head, leaving her for death.”
Upon realizing she had killed her wife the assailant fled away leaving his breastfeeding one year old baby crying on the ground.
Sibilo Sub- location assistant chief Agnes Keitany confirmed the incident saying police have taken the body to Baringo County Hospital mortuary-Kabarnet.
Keitany said the young family had some unsettled domestic affairs before the murder.
“The dispute was yet to be settled by the village elders but she just decided today to come and harvest her millet before meeting her premature death” assistant chief said adding that police are now looking for the suspect who is currently on the run. Ends
