George Clooney is one of the most handsome men in the world! That we all know. But what many might not know about the Hollywood actor is that he might also be one of the most generous men in the world.
News is emerging that the 59-year-old actor confirmed that yes, he did gift $US1 million (Ksh 109 million) to each of his 14 closest friends in 2013 as a token of appreciation for all they’ve done for him.
“I just thought basically if I get hit by a bus, they’re all in the will. So why the f**k am I waiting to get hit by a bus?” he told GQ for its Men of the Year issue.
Clooney himself came clean on the story after his best friend and business partner, Rande Gerber claimed as much in an interview with MSNBC.
He said that the Oscar winner invited all his friends over for dinner one night and handed them a suitcase, each containing $US1 million in cash.
Clooney said he wanted to do it because at that point in time he didn’t have a wife or kids and never expected to have a family.
“And I thought, what I do have are these guys who’ve all, over a period of 35 years, helped me in one way or another,” he said. “I’ve slept on their couches when I was broke. They loaned me money when I was broke. They helped me when I needed help over the years. And I’ve helped them over the years … And I thought, you know, without them I don’t have any of this.”
But it seems that the actor was presumptuous in his estimation that he would forever remain a bachelor as he would marry human rights lawyer, Amal Alamuddin a year later. The couple was blessed with twins, Alexander and Ella, in 2017.
The E.R star admitted that his wife totally rocked his world. “I was like, ‘I’m never getting married. I’m not gonna have kids,’” he said. “‘I’m gonna work, I’ve got great friends, my life is full, I’m doing well.’ And I didn’t know how un-full it was until I met Amal.”
