Atheists in Kenya (AIK) are counting their losses secretary Seth Mahiga resigned.
Seth said he had finally found Jesus.
Harrison Mumia, the society’s president, said the decision was “deeply regretted” in a statement to media outlets on Saturday.
“Seth’s reason for resigning is that he has found Jesus Christ and is no longer interested in promoting atheism in Kenya.”
He had been in the position for a year, according to the society.
“We wish Seth all the best in his newfound relationship with Jesus Christ, we thank him for having served the society with dedication for the last one and a half years,” the society said in a statement.
The society has invited interested parties to apply for the position by submitting their resumes.
The controversial group, which follows no religious tenets, seeks to provide alternatives to life by encouraging Kenyans to trust science and logic instead.
At the National Prayer Breakfast, the group called it the biggest waste of resources, claiming that good leadership and not prayers is the answer to Kenya’s problems.
