During this period one is required to be extra careful because of body sensitivity. Diet is one of the things you should be careful about when pregnant. Below is a list of some of the things you should avoid;

Unwashed produce

Unwashed produce, especially from fruits and vegetables, maybe contaminated bacteria and parasites from harvesting, production or even storage. Some of these bacteria can affect the baby either immediately or later in life after their birth.

It is, therefore, to observe high hygiene by washing and rinsing fruits before consumption.

It can also cause some brain damages to the unborn child. This includes other drugs such as cigarettes and other smoking substances.


Under-cooked, raw and processed meat

This increases the chances of getting bacteria and parasite infections. Bacteria may threaten the health of your unborn baby, possibly leading to stillbirth or severe neurological illnesses, including intellectual disability, blindness and epilepsy.

While most bacteria are found on the surface of whole pieces of meat, other bacteria may linger inside the muscle fibres. Processed should be eaten when properly reheated.

Raw fish especially shellfish can cause a lot of infections. Some infections may only affect the mother leaving her weak and dehydrated. Others can be passed on to the unborn babies with serious effects either immediately or later in life.

One should also avoid taking high-mercury fish. This is because mercury is a highly toxic element more especially to the body.

It can be harmful to the nervous, immune system and even the kidney which may affect the development of the child.
