A few weeks ago a Kenyan man shocked many after images emerged of his extravagant wedding aboard an airplane. The photos went viral with many Kenyans amazed at the opulence (I exaggerate) displayed by him.
That man is fashionista and stylist Adigo Digo, who broke the bank to wed his model of a lover, aboard a flying plane. But his life story is one that will shock most as the man who has come so far once hawked at Mathare slums where he was born in a family of 8 and where his dream to fly on a plane to Germany was nurtured.
Adigo said in an interview with a local publication;
“I longed to fly abroad, specifically Germany in 2018, but that did not happen. It is what inspired my decision partly to wed on a plane.”
He explained that he wanted to do something special for his woman and that is when the idea of a plane came in. He divulged that the couple exchanged vows aboard a passenger plane at Wilson Airport and the reception was held in Ukunda, Mombasa.
“I had been planning and saving for the event to also inspire my fellow youth that a long journey begins with one step. I focused on hawking mitumba because while growing up, I didn’t have enough clothes. I wore the same clothes for weeks and had none for special occasions like Christmas,” Adigo explains.
Adigo who is a part-time football player started selling clothes to other footballers in the area, which translated in him getting employed by one of his clients at a city shop in 2015.
This helped him build a base for his future business. But not only that, Adigo learnt German not just so he could fly to the first world country but to also guide tourists around the slum area.
Unfortunately, his dreams to fly to Germany in 2018 could not bear fruit following the passing on of his dad but that doesn’t mean he has tried to bring his version of Germany to his own shop at Jamia Mall called ‘Berlin’.
And yes, he still wants to fly to Germany in the future something that he says will take patience, focus, networking and growing slowly.
May it happen for him.
