Drunk police driver dies while ferrying KCSE exam papers in Baringo

A drunk police driver died after the vehicle ferrying KCSE exam material was involved in accident at Chemolingot, Baringo County on Monday.

According to sources, the deceased lost control near Nginyang bridge around 10pm at night.

 “He was spotted during the day running and down dispersing examination papers to the nearby schools” a witness said.

He said the officer was later that evening spotted at a local bar in Chemoling’ot town taking alcohol with his friends.

“Around 10pm, he was heard requesting anybody in the club whom he can handover the key to ride the vehicle” he said

He then decided to drive himself after failing to get a volunteer to take charge.

“He seemed so drunk such the vehicle was even staggering almost hitting people and buildings” the source said.

Nginyang OCPD James Musyimi confirmed the incident saying the driver was negotiating a diversion while embarking from Chemolingot town.

He said the driver was alone in the vehicle at the time and he lost control before rolling several times. He then died on the spot, Musyimi said.

The incident comes at a time residents in Chemolingot and Nginyang town claim harsh police harassment.

“Most of the officers get drunk and start disturbing and arresting innocent people in the name of holding normal night patrols” resident said.
