Almost two weeks after former Harambee Stars player Dennis Oliech lost his mother after a long battle with cancer, the late is yet to be buried and it is not yet clear when that will happen.
This is after the family published two conflicting obituaries with different burial dates, sparking controversy that all is not well with the family of the late Mary Auma.
Popularly known as Mama Oliech for her famous hotel which specializes in Fish, the mother of former Harambee Stars captain Dennis Oliech died on July 20.
In what appears to be a family tussle, two of her kin are said to have placed separate obituaries in Tuesday’s Daily Nation.
Both obituaries have different dates of burial.
The first obituary on page 45 shows Mama Oliech’s burial will be held on August 18, 2018, at the family home in Ratta-Seme, Kisumu county. It reads
“Mum will be laid to rest on 18th. For directions: From Kisumu head to Maseno then enter the road to Ratta School from here Ikm to Oliech home,”
The second obituary, published on page 46, announces that the cortege will leave Umash Funeral Home on August 9, 2018, for a requiem mass at Uhuru Church. It leaves Nairobi the same night and is expected to arrive at the family home on August 10; which is presumably the burial date.
According to sources, two family members showed up at Nation Center and insisted that the obituaries be published on the same day.
Though the obituaries carry the same pictures, the wording is different. One acknowledges that Mama Oliech had relatives, while the other does not.
