Chipukeezy speaking

I used to transport chang’aa on a bodaboda – Chipukeezy admits

Chipukeezy has a story that would inspire even the most ardent cynic (I know that’s a stretch). The comedian’s tale is one that shows the power of luck, hard work, vision, boldness, and great circumstance.

He recently spoke to Word Is and one of his disclosures took me by surprise. The NACADA board member said that one of his first jobs was ferrying chang’aa in his hometown Tala in Machakos.

Chipukeezy said that he did it because he needed to earn a living and get himself out of poverty;

After high school, I became a boda-boda rider and my work was also to transport chang’aa to different places at our home.

When did he have his Saul to Paul moment? According to the entertainer, it wasn’t feasible anymore after he had a nasty accident while transporting the brew. He told Word Is;

It rained so heavily and I fell with the boda, but I was also tired of living in shags.

The irony of his revelation is that he is now one of the biggest evangelists concerning the dangers drugs pose to the youth. he said his past is something he said he wasn’t ashamed about;

I can go back to my village with authority and tell people the truth about drugs. That is part of my life that I am not shy about, and I will always want to speak about my past to inspire someone else.

After that Chipukeezy moved to Nairobi, enrolled at East African School of Media Studies while also going for auditions and acting on set books. he said that the experience of acting out set-books in schools eventually built his profile.

He said that starring in ‘Tahidi High’ was a dream of his and also becoming a comedy guru like his mentor Daniel Ndambuki alias Churchill.
