Ben Affleck’s past romance and engagement to Jeniffer Lopex was a roller coaster because of they were constantly in the public eye.
Affleck was a guest on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast on Jan. 14 to discuss his role in The Way Back and opened up about Lopez, his ex Jeniffer Garner and his current girlfriend.
It was so difficult that Affleck explains that from 2002 – 2004, he and Jennifer Lopez were the most followed and scrutinized Hollywood couple, dubbed Beniffer at the time.
The publicity about their romance was terrible.
“People were so f–king mean about her — se3ist, racist. Ugly, vicious s–t was written about her in ways that if you wrote it now, you would literally be fired for saying those things you said, Now it’s like she’s lionized and respected for the work she did, where she came from, what she accomplished — as well she f–king should be!”
Affleck and Lopez garnered heavy media attention throughout their two-year romance.
“You know, there’s always a story of the month, and me dating Jennifer Lopez happened to be that tabloid story at the time when that business grew exponentially,” he recalled on the podcast.
He added on the Podcast that he is glad she is now receiving positive press and has always been impressed by how hard she works, one thing that drew him to her.
“I think there was a natural reaction to wait a minute, why am I hearing about you every day and seeing you on every newsstand?” Affleck said. “That would engender enormous amount of resentment anyway. When you think about it, the answer is so obvious. Why in the world would I have wanted that? Why would I have sought that out?”
