An Administration Police (AP) officer is recuperating at Baringo Referral Hospital – Kabarnet after stabbing himself on the chest in unclear circumstance on Friday evening.
Reportedly, Patrick Wekesa attached to Kaptimbor AP Camp locked himself inside his room, attempted to take his own life before he was rescued by his colleagues.
“He was screaming in pain and blood was oozing from the wound on his chest so we rushed in and helped him to the hospital” his colleague said.
The officer, who mans the gate at Governor Stanley Kiptis residential home in Kabarnet town, was allegedly drunk during the 4pm incident.
However County AP Commander Robinson Ndiwa disputed claims that the officer’s decision to kill himself resulted in sudden transfer from his workstation.
“The officer was drunk and his colleagues on duty had allowed him time off to go and relax before stabbing himself” Ndiwa said.
Statistic shows that cases of security officers taking their own lives in Baringo County is on the rise.
In March last year an AP officer Daniel Chemjor, 50, from Kapsoo in Baringo Central shot himself death in Marigat camp, Baringo South Sub-County.
“He had just returned back from his one month leave when he shot himself using his G3 gun” a colleague said.
On September 18 last year, another AP officer Robert Ewoi, 40, attached to the same camp, sneaked out of duty in the midnight to his house in Kampi ya Samaki-15kilometres away to shoot on the thigh injuring his wife Purity Elim, 20, before killing himself.
It is reported that the 40-year old officer was drunk during the incident.
On June 2017 Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) offer Jackson Mwangi turned rowdy shooting dead his two colleagues Gabriel Kung’u Njoroge and Francis Ekono, leaving Daniel Kyalo injured at Kasiela camp in Baringo South.
