Bahati is one Kenyan who became a household name after his song “Mama” hit the gospel charts half a decade ago. The musician touched many Kenyans hearts with the beautiful ballad that not only launched his career but is his most memorable song to this day.
The song is one that most of us could sing if we could as we know the special bond we have with our mothers considering the humongous sacrifices that they have made for us.
What made Bahati’s song pithier was that the singer made an ode to a mom who had passed on when he was very young. Yesterday, the controversial singer shared the only image that he had of his late mother – one he revealed that had been taken 35 years ago.
His touching caption read;
THE ONLY PICTURE I HAVE EVER FOUND OF MY LATE MUM LUCIA MUENI 💔 Taken more than 35 Years ago… At times Looking at it I always Wish I would be granted Just a Day to treat her. Just a Day to Make her Proud. She Died When I was 7 Years Old even before I knew the bitterness of this World. Every Day I work Hard to Make her Proud and May the Lord Rest her Soul in Eternal Peace. R.I.P Mama 🙏🙏🙏 HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY MAMA BAHATI 😭😭😭
The image received a lot of almost unanimous positive feedback considering what a divisive force he is in Kenya.
In a previous interview, the singer explained how he had grown up in ABC Children’s home in Kariobangi after his mother passed away. He also revealed that his step-brother was the only family he knew while growing up.
“I had been living in ABC Kenya Children’s home in Kariobangi, until I learned of the passing of my father. I was in Class Eight. Somehow, I managed to attend the burial and it was after this when my step-brother took me. He is the only family I have ever known of,” says Bahati, of his guardian, Kioko Bahati.
