The dispute between the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) and artists themselves continues to escalate, particularly between the head of the organization, Ezekiel Mutua, and veteran artist Hubert Nakitare, popularly known as Nonini.

Recently, Nonini urged Ezekiel Mutua to give artists their due respect, emphasizing that artists are the ones who create the content that he manages.

However, Mutua, through his Facebook page on Tuesday morning, responded to Nonini's statement, saying it's akin to players starting to demand respect forcefully from their coach just because they are the ones playing and getting paid.

Mutua further explained the importance of discipline in any field, stating that even if the coach doesn't play, they must be present to ensure discipline from the players, referring to himself as the coach and the artists as players.

"This hit home, really! It's like a player telling the coach, 'Respect us. We are your employers.' Certainly, the coach doesn't play.

But he oversees and instills discipline in the team. If artists want respect, they must follow the rules and create content that promotes Kenyan culture and values," Mutua replied.

The MCSK director strongly opposed the notion of respecting artists who mislead society with controversial content, such as the artist who dances with a diaper in the name of gospel.

Mutua defended the action taken against artists Embarambamba and William Getumbe by the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB), stating that no sector can thrive and endure without discipline and specific guidelines to be followed.

"No one can respect the madness of people dancing naked and wearing diapers like young children. No industry can progress without discipline.

For artists to be respected, there must be ethical standards. They must have professional standards. Use their talents to build, not destroy society. And they must respect the government and its leadership!" Mutua concluded.

Earlier, speaking on Citizen TV, Nonini urged Mutua to respect artists, stating that without them, he wouldn't have a job in the MCSK office.

"If you can't follow the government's directive, what are you doing? He is an employee of the artists; he must respect them. Since when did you see an employee quarreling with their bosses?" the musician exclaimed.

This is not the first time Nonini has questioned MCSK regarding the unfair collection and distribution of royalties in the Kenyan music industry.
